… and the Season Begins

A year has passed since I ran my first road race, the UP ICTUS CENTURY run on January 13, 2008.  I can’t find the race results anymore, but I remembered running a 1:07 10k.  I also remembered feeling that sense of acheivement because I never imagined that I could EVER in my lifetime, complete a 10K race.

My love for running started after the UP ICTUS run, I discovered that the post run endorphin rush was the ULTIMATE CURE for that nagging nicotine habit that I find myself occasionally relapsing into.  Soon enough, 10K was peanuts, my running distances increased from 10 to 15 to 21, and ultimately to 42.  Nowadays, finishing a race just isn’t enough anymore, I wanted to run fast, I wanted to finish fast… nothing satisfies me more that seeing my name in the first few pages of the race results sheet.

After an extended break from serious running in December, I was eager to get back into racing mode, hopefully establish a PR or two within the year.  The Bull Run and the Happy Run were the first two races I signed up for in 2009, what’s significant about these two races was that the race routes were similar if not identical to the race routes that I ran in last year (Bull Run 2008 and Mizuno Infinity run), I could benchmark my finish times against last year’s finish times.

The race results from these two races show an improvement from my finish times last year.

  • 2008 BULL RUN = 1:02 VS 2009 BULL RUN = 47:02
  • Mizuno Infinity Run = 1:21 VS The Happy Run = 1:13:28

Looking ahead, I’ll definitely be working on improving my finish times further this year, maybe this time around I’ll be able to finish ahead of my RUNNING CRUSH.

Hey Harry, that was a big leap, congratulations. I can see that you are so intense in your training runs, that’s where it came from. Keep up the good work, there are more surprises ahead of you. Nice seeing you at the happy run.

By the way NB904 are out now, ganda!

HI VENER, hope to see you soon! I did try out the NB 904s at Planet Sports, and they seem to mold my feet better, they are narrower (my feet tend to slide around the 903s towards the end of my long run when i’m already exhausted ), and i feel that there’s more midfoot support. I still prefer the all yellow color of the 903s though. However I picked Asics DS Trainer 14 as a replacement for my soon to be retired 903s, the feel even better than the 904s, perfect fit sa feet ko + same feel sa midfoot..

harry, you can join bards, mesh, cathy, vicky, chuchay, kristine & dingdong in our “speed” training at the ultra oval track. 100% guaranteed that we will make you run faster! see you and congrats on your PR times.

Sir Jovie, I actually wanted to join Bards for her speedtraing with Team BR but my schedule does not permit at this time. I will definitely join once my schedule eases up. Congrats on your Bull Run PR. Cheers.. Harry

UP Ictus was also my first race in 2008. After a forgettable 1h 30+ finish in December 2006’s Runnex 10k, my first ever fun run, I swore off running for a whole year. I still have the results of the 2008 ICTUS run, will email to you.

Dingdong… never stop running, takaw takbo tayo :) see you on sunday, cheers, Harry
